Lets give cancer a bloody nose!!!
Story
Hello everyone,
As many of you know, my dad (Pop) is currently fighting with cancer (Brain Tumour) and is current undergoing chemotherapy back in the UK.
There's isn't a lot I can do from 12,000 miles away but I've decided to take on the challenge of doing the Sydney marathon. I'm wanting to raise as much money as possible to help people who are in a similar position to Pop and to help eradicate this shocking disease!!
So this September, I’m going to be sweating it out and doing my best to complete the gruelling course which crosses over the Harbour Bridge, around Sydney's CBD and finishing up at the Opera House steps.
I've entered into Group B which is the 3:45 to 4:30 hours section but the target I have set myself is to run and break the 3:30 barrier. It's going to be a massive undertaking on my part so I’d really appreciate your support for this event and your donations will go towards something that is truly worth fighting for!!!!
Further to this, I am being supported by two of my friends Natalie Sanders and Louise Sym who have taken on the challenge of running the half marathon as well as my fantastic group of friends who are all helping give cancer a bloody nose!!!
The original target was set at $5,000 but thanks to the outstanding support from my friends and family I have decided to raise the bar. The new target I have set myself is $7,500 which means that we can make a real difference.
ALL donations you give go directly to charity, so please click on DONATE NOW as every donation will help be a step closer to finally curing
Thank you for your support and helping to make a difference!
Much Love Jimmy, Natalie, Louise and everyone from Team #happyjim

Manly Rugby Club Fundraiser (03/08/2013)
My rugby club (Manly Marlins) were kind enough to allow me to set up a stall at my last home game against Penrith. We set up a cake stall (cakes provided by my friends) next to the main stand with two posters outlining what I am running for etc. The cakes sold like wild fire and we were able to raise an outstanding $840 from the cake sales and small donations from the spectators. The target for this event is $250.00 which was blown well and truly out of the water. I would like to thank the Manly rugby community for their kind donations and to my friends LK, Natters and Louise for making all the cakes. brownies and cake pops because I would not have been able to raise that much money if it wasn't for you.
Sydney City to Surf (11/08/2013)
The third training run was the 14km City to Surf which starts in the centre of Sydney and moves out to Bondi via the famous heartbreak hill. The target for the run was 60 minutes which equates to 4:15 km's which is steady pace especially considering the length on some of the hills. Regardless of this I ran the course in a time of 59 minutes dead which I am happy with. The legs felt really heavy especially after to dodge alot of people and the constant stop start nature of running in such a large race. In the end I came 1347th out of the 69,236 people that finished the race, 1254th fastest male out of 34,184 blokes that finished and 341st out of 8,600 blokes in my age group (20-29). Now its on to the bigger challenges the Half Marathon and the Big Run around the beaches.
Perth Half Marathon (25/08/2013)
This Sunday just gone I took part in my biggest official run of my training over in Perth. The half marathon formed part of Perth's City to Surf running festival which included 4km, 12km, 21km and 42km runs. The reasoning for this run was to build speed in my legs over a greater distance in a similar environment to what I will be facing in Sydney. The course itself was very surprising in the fact there were a lot of long hills which was not part of the deal when I signed up to it but overall it was a fantastic run. For those who know Perth the race started in the city centre and then migrated all around Kings Park and then buggered off out towards City Beach on the northern beaches of Perth. The target time I set myself was 1 hour and 30 minutes which I broke!!! I ran a time of 1:26:25 which I am properly pleased with!!! Running that pace sets me up very nicely to complete the marathon within my target time of 3:30:00. During the run I felt good in myself but towards the end the legs became quite heavy.
SYDNEY FULL MARATHON (22/09/2013)
On a cool sunny Sunday morning I took part in the biggest physical challenge of my life where I ran the "Big One", 42km around Sydney!!! This race/run formed part of the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival where several events had been organised. The start time was at 7:20 in the morning and it was rather sharp but as soon as I started the sweat started to pour as the mercury rose very quickly. I then migrated around the course which crossed the bridge from Milsons Point to as far as Centennial Park and then back again to finish up at the Opera House which isnt the worst place to end up after running 42km. In the end I ran the course in a time of 3 hours 27 Minutes and 53 seconds which means I beat my target of 3:30:00.
After the run I slowly started to seize up and ended the day walking like an old man haha. Feet were ruined and legs were rock solid!!! I gave it ago to raise some money for this fantastic cause that is the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.
I would like to thank everyone who has suported me through the entire process of my training and thank you for giving so generiously towards my fundraising. I hope I didnt let any of you down but I tried my best. Thanks again.
Take it easy Jimbo xxx
